Diets: Separating Fact from Fiction

There are as many weight loss plans as there are different types of fruit juice, or stereo brands. And it's confusing! Here's a rundown of some of the best known diets, along with personal testimonials.
  1. The Subway Diet. Made famous by spokesperson Jared, the Subway Diet says that you can lose weight with lots of walking, and eating Subway sandwiches two times a day. The key to the diet? Portion control and low fat.

    Kimberley, who went from 316 to 200 pounds on the Subway Diet, had this to say: "Life used to pass me by, now it can't catch up with me! Instead of struggling to walk to a mailbox, I'm seeing what new way I can challenge my body. I make healthy food choices."
  2. The Atkins Diet. The popular Atkins Diet, created by the late Dr. Atkins, counsels dieters to reduce carbohydrate intake significantly. It's a diet for meat eaters, as steaks, burgers, and bacon are some of the items that you are encouraged to eat while on the plan.

    One advocate of the diet, Jennifer, said, "My husband and I were on Atkins for six months. During that time, I lost 70 pounds. My husband lost 55 pounds. I had more energy and was healthier than I had been for years."
  3. South Beach Diet. The South Beach Diet focuses on the difference between "good" carbs and "bad" carbs. The premise is that avoiding "bad" carbs, which come in the form of baked goods and soft drinks, helps your metabolism work faster, which in turn promotes weight loss.

    Theresa, a South Beach Dieter, said of the diet, "After many years of fad diets and yo-yo dieting, I am finally achieving my goal - to be a healthier and smaller individual. I am eating less because I am actually not hungry. This was a lifestyle change for me!"
