Diet And Exercise Will Help Reduce Cholesterol

Cholesterol drugs may lower your cholesterol level, but it takes more than just popping pills to make you healthy. Studies have shown that a low cholesterol diet and a regular exercise program can save your life. Research has indicated that as little as 30 minutes of exertion a day can raise your levels of good cholesterol - the HDL cholesterol that keeps the bad cholesterol in check - and actually reverse dangerous bloodstream deposits.

Where Can You Exercise?

You don't have to join a fancy health club or buy expensive equipment in order to reduce cholesterol through exercise. Simple walking will do the trick and walking is free.

Take a look at the following list of easy cholesterol-lowering exercises and choose the ones you can do on a regular basis:
  • Walking for health. Walking as little as 30 minutes a day will make a big difference in your overall health. Walk around the block in your lunch hours and coffee breaks. If you drive for a living, stop, park, and take a health walk. Walk briskly and let your arms swing freely. Breathe deeply and let your chest relax. Try increasing the pace about halfway through your walk so you can slow down towards the end and let your muscles cool off. If you change your route on alternating days, your walk won't become a boring routine.
  • Take the bike instead of the car. Bicycling is another healthy exercise. A daily bike ride can lower your cholesterol and keep you young and healthy. Train yourself to jump on your bicycle instead of reaching for the car keys when you have to run short errands. Of course, make sure you know the bicycling safety rules. Pay attention to traffic and wear a helmet when you ride.
