Natural acne treatment

Following years of relying on drugs and antibiotics in adult acne treatment, physicians have begun to emphasize natural acne treatment and advanced dermatology in relieving patients of the sores and scarring caused by acne vulgaris and acne rosacea. The recent refinements of acne blue light treatment and infrared light therapy have opened fresh options for natural acne remedies.

Relieving Acne Blues with Blue Light

Not long ago, scientists discovered that free radicals in the porphyrin molecules that release in sebaceous gland bacteria are vulnerable to blue light wavelengths. When blasted with the blue light, the free radicals are damaged, killing off bacteria. In recent trials, patients enjoyed more than 75 percent decreases in acne spotting following a 12-week course of blue light treatment. Unlike more traditional UV treatments, the new blue Omnilux light does not produce heat or burning to the skin and, during the short course of treatment, is not considered to increase the risk of skin cancer. Doctors are now beginning to explore the use of low-intensity laser dermatology in combination with topical indocyanine green, in treating severe acne.

Natural Botanicals and Vitamins May Help

If you chose not to employ antibacterial lotions or antibiotics in treating acne, there are known natural herbs and oils that can reduce inflammation and help kill bacteria. Tea tree oil has been known to quiet acne eruptions. Vitamin A may help reduce sebum production, but it is dangerous in doses exceeding 5,000 IU. A daily intake of a multi vitamin with sufficient amounts of beta-carotene, vitamin E, and zinc is also known to reduce skin bacteria. Anti-oxidants and essential fatty acid (Omega 3) supplements assist cleansing and regeneration of inflamed cells.
